I titled this post Part One because over the next two months (or more, as we settle in Belize) I want to share the journey with you. From what and how I pack up my life, to shipping info, to setting up life in a foreign country, I think it might be interesting. Plus, there are bound to be some good stories. We are bringing three cats, after all.
Some brief updates to be expanded upon in the future:
- We have found a place in San Pedro to call home while we are there, and it was a huge answer to prayer. Our team mascot Lucky wrote about this on his blog here. And we have been able to figure out funding for most of our rent for the year. We also are in contact with people in Belize who will be helping us to get some necessary but difficult to find or expensive to purchase items once we are there. All good things! We are really grateful. It is such a big help and a huge relief.
- However, we are still going to be living in a third-world country, which brings it's own unique set of challenges. I already find myself noticing a difference in perspective as I talk with people about life's happenings here in the U.S. and think to myself, "That's not a big deal. Life in Belize will be completely different from the 'difficult realities of life' here." Clearly, culture shock is bound to happen. More on that to come.
- Finally, logistics. Ah, how I love logistics. Within minutes of having purchased a ticket to Belize, my mind was swimming with to-do list items. And I legitimately enjoy thinking that way. But it's also overwhelming. The moving calendar is a little intense. Hopefully it works out well. We will soon find out.
